Beowulf Gets Bigtime in the Boxoffice

Beowulf took in an estimated $28.1 million in it’s first weekend. This is a really good starter, but hasnt’ come close (yet) to beating Dreamwork’s Bee Movie, which has now taken in $98.8 million in the three weekends it’s been out. This weekend it took in a bit over $14 million.
It has also raised some debate about what an animated movie truly is. In Beowulf, for instance, the actors wore suits that had little white balls all over them, like this:

A special camera captures all of the actor’s movements and computer technicians then make the character move the way the balls do. Beowulf will be entered into the animated categories in the upcoming movie awards, but should it be? Some believe that the only type of movies that should count as animated movies are ones that are completely made by computer, like Bee Movie. Others think that films made like Beowulf are show what the future of movies.
I didn’t get the chance to see Beowulf yet, but I’d imagine that $28 million is nowhere near what they need to make just to break even. I’ll see if I can find how much the movie cost to make - but when you imagine how much they had to pay the amazing actors (who were worth it, I’m sure), the animators, and all the computer techs, you’re looking at at LEAST a hundred million dollars, not to add all of the money it cost to promote the film. Then again, you’ve got to add the amount that will come in from DVD sales, so it might actually make money - let’s hope so!
Did anyone see it? What did you think?
