Make It Right

Make It Right Doing Even More Good

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

25hgcovgehryWe all know how amazing Make It Right is, but did you know that they’re not only building single family homes, but homes that can house two families?

These homes are designed not only to house those people who are looking to move back into the Lower 9th Ward after Hurricane Katrina, but for those who want to be able to supplement their income.

Returning families can now choose to buy either a single or a double design — at a price much below market value, director Tom Darden said. Families choosing to buy a double will be able to rent half to supplement their incomes. In the future, Make It Right plans to “condo-ize” some doubles, Darden added, allowing for split ownership.

How amazing is this project? I know that Brad and Angelina do so many good deeds, but for some reason I really feel a connection with Make It Right - possibly because I am an American? Who knows - I just know that it’s great to see this project doing some good for the people of New Orleans.

Brad Pitt for Mayor - GIVEAWAY!

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Did you know that there are some people who are trying to get Brad Pitt to run for Mayor of New Orleans?

Apparently many of the residents are not impressed with their current mayor, Ray Nagin, and Professor Thomas Bayer decided to do something about it! He believes, for many reasons, that Brad would make a wonderful Mayor for New Orleans and has made sure that the world is learning about all of the reasons why.

He even created something special in order to draw attention to the cause - click below to check it out!

Chef John Besh Battles for Make It Right and New Photos of Brad

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

I need to come clean with something. I’m a total Top Chef fanatic. It started a few years ago when my sister-in-law begged me to watch the show, and now I’m hooked. During the winter months there are very few shows that I simply must watch - the type of shows where, if the DVR doesn’t record them, I’m devastated. Top Chef is one of those shows.

So far I’m also enjoying Top Chef Masters. This pits master chefs against each other to fight for money towards their charity. Imagine my surprise when, last night, I noticed that Chef John Besh was battling against his fellow chefs in order to support Make It Right!

A year ago everyone knew about Make It Right. Now the charity is still collecting money and doing great things, but the passion behind the drive has seemed to die down a bit. I’m so glad that Chef Besh chose to represent his city and to support Make It Right. He didn’t win, but it did bring Make It Right back into the public eye, and for that I am very grateful.

And, for your viewing enjoyment, a few new photos of Brad riding his motorcycle around Los Angeles yesterday - and look! He has a different helmet! Let’s just hope that this bike didn’t break down like his last one did!

Some Tidbits

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

I’m titling this one “Chivalrous”.

Sorry for the down time yesterday! I’m still not quite sure what happened with the network, but rest assured we’re up and running again! I’ve got a few little things for you to check out. First of all, how about that photo above?! I love how he’s holding her hand - reminds me of an old black and white movie where the woman is called a “classy dame” and the guy is a true gentleman. How come my husband never holds my hand like that? Come to think of it, how come he doesn’t even own a tux?!

Maybe I should just be happy that he does the laundry and has no problem playing chauffeur on occasion, huh?

And in case you haven’t seen them, here are what some of the houses look like in New Orleans - you know the ones - the ones that Brad is helping to build? They look absolutely amazing. I’d love to take a tour through one, wouldn’t you?!

And as a final tidbit, how about a video that I’d never seen before?! A reader (thanks Amanda!) emailed me this video of an interview Angelina did. She wasn’t sure when it was done, but my sleuthfulness discovered that this was done most likely in 2004, when Angelina appeared for the We Are The Future telecast that was broadcast over many nations and was a fundraiser to help the children of the world. I love this interview because you can see how much Angelina cares for children in it, and she wasn’t asked any of those questions we’ve been getting annoyed with - you know, the old “how many more are you going to have?” questions.

Enjoy guys!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at Benjamin Button NOLA Premiere - and HUGE BRAD SURPRISE!

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Once again Brad and Angie have caught the paps unawares! They popped up at the special New Orleans premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - so that’s why they’re in New Orleans! Duh!

This news is so hot and fresh, these are the only pics available right now! I guarantee we’ll have tons more in a few hours!

Angelina looks, as always, stunning, as of course, does Brad!

And now for the huge Brad news - guess who’s going to be on ELLEN on WEDNESDAY?!?!?! BRAD!! Brad Pitt is going to be on Ellen! Check out Ellen’s site -

After he did the Oprah Interview, lots of Brad’s fans (including me) were wishing that he would do Ellen, and now he’s booked! I would guess that the two will get along famously - as Ellen is not only a wonderful talk show host, but she’s also a New Orleans native and did a lot to help out the Make It Right campaign - I can’t wait to watch! As with Oprah, I’ll write the transcript if you all would like!

So not only do we get great Brad and Angelina photos, we get news that Brad will be on Ellen! What a Monday Night!

More Photos of Brad, Angelina, Maddox and Pax at the Lower 9th Ward

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Wow. I woke up this morning to find TONS of photos of Brad, Angelina, Maddox, and Pax during their visit to the Lower 9th ward yesterday. See, when Brad and Angelina deliberately try to hide from the paparazzi (and who can blame them), I forget how many photos can occur in a day when they’re NOT trying to hide. I also forget how sweet some of the photos can be! I love the one above of Brad’s arm around Angelina (courtesy of JustJared because I haven’t found it anywhere else yet), and I also absolutely love this photo of Angelina and Pax.

One arm wrapped around him, giving him her full attention. I love that these pictures show both sides of a woman in a relationship - being a mom and a lover can be a tricky act to balance, but she does so beautifully.

Someone remarked yesterday on one of the photos that Maddox looked upset or annoyed that Pax was following him around. I actually told my husband last night that many of the looks we see on Maddox’s face reminds me of my son, who is going to be 8 in December. He is an older brother as well, and basically came out of the womb with his serious face on. I don’t think Maddox is frustrated all the time, or that he’s annoyed with Pax all the time (as you can tell by some of the photos you’ll see below). I think he’s probably just your average big brother - annoyed and frustrated occasionally but happy to have parents and siblings who love him.

Enjoy the photos Jolie-Pitt fans! These are truly great candid ones!

(on a side note, I received an email from a fan who was upset that the photos were only thumbnail sizes. They’re not - click on each one and they’ll pop up, and many of them can be clicked on AGAIN to reveal that they’re actually quite large!)

New Photos of Brad, Angelina, Maddox, and Pax in the Lower 9th Ward

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Brad announced yesterday that the Make It Right campaign has raised enough money to put 90 families back into their homes. This is huge! I’m so proud of everyone who gave money and for Brad and Angelina for pushing for this to happen.

Today Brad and Angie took Maddox and Pax down to the Lower 9th - ostensibly to check out the homes and get more stuff done. The photos are great! To begin with, they’re fairly grainy, so I’m guessing it was a photographer using a telephoto lens, which makes me happy. I love when the photographers are considerate of the family. Secondly, I have absolutely fallen in love with this photo of Pax:

Does anyone know what this is? Is it a piece of playground equipment? Is it something on the construction site? Whatever it is, Pax looks like he’s having an absolute blast playing around in it. His smiles put an automatic one on my own face, but that picture right there is simply brilliant. I need that blown up and put on my wall. It’s just a joyous photo!

I’m sure there will be many more of these photos popping up in the morning, and if there are I’ll have them for you!

New Homes Going Up in New Orleans!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Thanks, guys, for your approval on the letter to Ms. Barr! I want to open the floor up to you on that one - if you’ve got a letter you’d like to send Ms. Barr, put it in the comments or contact me! I’ll not only post it here on the website, but will be collecting them in an attempt to send them all (in printed form hopefully) to Ms. Barr.

Want some good news? The NOLA project is moving forward quite swiftly!

The first of the homes being built by the Make It Right campaign is almost finished! Workers are doing their best to get all of the homes completed, but soon one family will be able to move back into the home they owned that was destroyed just a short time ago.

In a story about the new homes, Gertrude LeBlanc, a 72 years young retired postal worker, talks about the action going on in the Lower 9th Ward, and how she looks forward to old family friends returning, thanks to the Make It Right campaign.

Early last year, LeBlanc was one of the first people to return to this colossally damaged section of the Lower 9, not far from the Industrial Canal levee breach. “When I came back, they put up a banner in the post office near here, saying, ‘Miss Gert’s back. Deliver her mail, ‘ ” she said.

LeBlanc has been keeping close track of who has returned to the neighborhood. Within the next month, she said, mail service also should resume at Make It Right’s six houses, thanks to “the answer to our prayers — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, ” LeBlanc said.

On her block, two of her longtime neighbors are coming back, thanks to the foundation. As she drinks her coffee in the morning, LeBlanc soon will be able to wave to a woman three lots down, who she has known for decades as Ms. Guy.

LeBlanc and her family also are counting the days until the return of their next-door neighbor Melba Barnes.

“She loves to cook, ” LeBlanc said. “There is nothing Melba can’t cook.”

LeBlanc pointed toward Barnes’ home on stilts. Barnes’ house and the others have solar panels and environmentally “green” amenities, and they look different from what LeBlanc is used to, she said.

Still, she and her neighbors plan to be neighborly, just like the old days, she said.

“We told Melba, ‘Just put that food on a rope and drop it down, ‘ ” LeBlanc said.

According to the Make It Right website, 84 of 150 homes have currently been sponsored. If you can, please remember to make a donation of whatever amount you can afford. Maybe you’re planning on having a yard sale - you can donate the proceeds to the Make It Right foundation. Maybe you’ve got some old DVD’s or games to sell on Ebay. Why not send the money to people who truly need it?

Thanks to people like us, families are finally getting to go home.

Thank you.

Making It Right NOW

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Make It Right is serious - when Brad said they wanted to have people into new homes by this summer, he meant it. Here is the first Make It Right home to be completed and ready for a new family -

makeitrighthome.jpg

Amazing! It all happened so very quickly. This is what happens when people get together and strive to make something good happen. But it’s not over yet. Only 81 of the 150 homes that they want to build can be built at this point in time. If you’ve got a bit of extra cash, why not donate to Make It Right? What better place could there be to put the money you’ll receive from your economic stimulus package? Its one way to keep the mony in the United States, right?!

If you’d like to donate, you can still do so by visiting Make It Right.

Angie and Kids! Brad and Bill! 6 Out of Seven Cute…

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Guess what Jolie-Pitt fans? Angie and the kiddos were absolutely in New Orleans, and an intrepid photographer caught them at a store getting the kiddos some snacks! Just your average, ordinary, every-day, always expanding family! Angie had all four and a half (heh) of the kiddos and it looks like someone likes Cheeto’s! Definite goodness! Shiloh appeared to have had a rough time for it for a minute, but looks like mom was able to calm her down. Don’t forget: Shiloh’s almost 2, and every parent knows that the terrible two’s always start before the second birthday - and sometimes they last until the child is a teenager!! But it looks like the five of them had a nice little walk. They all look healthy and happy and Zee is getting HUGE! She’s almost as tall as Pax!

Meanwhile, Dad was hanging out with Bill Clinton for the Clinton Global Initiative University. They got some business done and took some time to shake hands and talk to the people. Looks like both of the parental figures in the family had a very filling day!

Brad in New Orleans

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Alright, Brad has moved from Texas back home to New Orleans. He was spotted there yesterday by eager Paparazzi cameras and is expected to meet with ex-President Bill Clinton today about his Make It Right campaign. Clinton’s Global Initiative University (CGIU) is “geared to get college students to address global issues through workshops and meetings on things like climate change, human rights, global health and poverty alleviation. Seven-hundred students from across the globe, university presidents, celebrities and local leaders are all part of various panel discussions and speeches at the school.”

I’m not sure if this is taking place in New Orleans or not (I’m guessing it is, though), but we can definitely say that the Brad and Angie we saw the other day at the Natural Food convention was probably NOT Brad and Angie. Not only is Brad’s hair still really short, but he doesn’t have a goatee right now. I have tried to contact Brad’s publicist, but haven’t heard back from her yet.
